In keeping with the policies of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to
develop sports in the Provinces, the foundation stone for the
construction of the office-complex for the Digana Sports Stadium will
take place on (Thursday) October 1 at 11 a.m. at Rajawella.
The foundation stone will be laid by the Chief Minister of Central
Province Sarath Ekanayake at the invitation of Central Provincial
Council Members Sunil Amaratunga, R.G. Samaranayake and T.R. Linton
Wijesinghe.
Also participating at this ceremony will be Central Province Minister
of sports Velusamy Radhakrishnan.
The Digana Sports Complex will be the biggest sports complex in the
Central Province with facilities to play soccer, volleyball, netball,
with a 400 metre track and a swimming pool will be added on later.
The ground has been levelled by cutting a mound and the planting of
grass will be done later.
Located in the mid country dry zone, this region experiences lesser
rain than the hill capital. This sports Complex will also serve the
sportsmen and sportswomen of Udadumbara and Patha Dumbara in a big way
and is only 16 kilometres from Kandy and not far away from the
Pallekelle Cricket Stadium owned by Sri Lanka Cricket. |
