Kotalawala issued with Order Nisi

Colombo District Judge Laffar Thahir yesterday ordered that Order Nisi be delivered to Ceylinco Group Chairman Lalith Kotalawala through the Prison Superintendent in connection with a motion filed by a relative of Dr. Gamini Corea to make her Corea's guardian in place of Lalith Kotalawala. The order is returnable on October 12. Chandanee Anoma Gunawardene of Colombo 7 filing the motion as an intervening petitioner also pleaded to appoint J.C. Trust Services (Pvt) Ltd as the Manager of the asset of Dr. Gamini Corea removing Lalith Kotalawala from functioning as the Manager of Corea's asset.

According to the motion, Gunawardene filed the motion after Lalith Kotalawla requested from her on September 14, 2009 through a letter to take steps to appoint herself to act as the Guardian of Dr. Gamini Corea and the manager of Corea's assets in place of Kotalawala stating that Kotalawala was unable to discharge his duties in those positions due to his present situation.

Gunawardene further stated that Kotalawala filing a plaint before the District Court of Colombo obtained an order on January 08, 2004 by which Kotalawala was appointed the guardian of his cousin Dr. Gamini Corea and the manager of his (Corea's) assets since Dr. Corea was not in good health.

Intervening petitioner Gunawardene filing the motion prayed before the Court to remove Lalith Kotalawala from being the Guardian of Dr. Gamini Corea and the manager of his assets. She also prayed to appoint her as the guardian of Dr. Gamini Corea and the J.C. Trust Services (Pvt) Ltd as the manager of Corea's asset.
