Sahasapura re-awakening program by REEL

Urban Development and Sacred Area Development, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has instructed the new REEL Chairman D.J.U. Purasingha to launch an accelerated community development program to give a new outlook with an objective of benefiting the underserved communities in the city.

This program has originally organized in the Sahasapura in which the first maiden condominium housing scheme ever placed on behalf of the underserved settlers in Colombo.

The Chairman of REEL with these instructions has personally observed the physical shortcomings which affect to the community in Sahasapura and has called upon a committee meeting including representatives in each layers of the scheme and has broadly discussed the matters pertaining to the subject.

Sahasapura the maiden condominium housing scheme with 13 stories is built on behalf of low income group communities and slum dwellers as a prime effort to provide them with a perfect livelihood in the city.

While the maintenance and common amenities of the scheme is being implemented by a management corporation body, this current effort will be focused on establishing systematic community development strategies in a participatory approach.

Purasingha has also initiated a development lottery to be implemented to raise funds for this purpose.

He has instructed the representatives to organize a society with the participation of all the layers of the Sahasa condominium scheme to promote the existing community development endeavors in future.
