Bernard PERERA
The most prestigious Volleyball Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka
Volleyball Federation the 18th President's Gold Cup will see the final
stage of the district level will be held today and tomorrow to find the
qualifiers for the national championship.
The highlight this year will be the possibility of conducting the
district tournament in Jaffna district with a large number of teams
competing to make their way to the provincial stage to battle it out
with other districts in this level.
The district tournament will be played at the Jaffna Madya Maha
Vidyalaya courts.
Meanwhile, in the Trincomalee District too a large participation was
seen, specially many teams coming from Muttur and Kattaparichchan.
In fact the SLVBF headed by Ports and Port Development Minister and
President of SLVBF Dilan Perera had to take pains in providing the teams
transport via boat services. These teams appear in a major tournament
after a lapse of nearly three decades. This was made possible due to the
liberation of Tiger held areas by the Armed Forces in the past few
months.
Dilan Perera says that sports of this nature will help unite the
people of this country and also bring in peace what the whole country
was looking for.
The districts that will hold their qualifying matches this week are
Badulla, Gampaha, Jaffna and Trincomalee.
All these qualifiers will battle it out to reach the ultimate goal
