IDP facilities in Vavuniya: UN Envoy satisfied

Meets officials in Vanni:

United Nations Special Representative of IDPs and Human Rights Dr. Walter Kalin expressed full satisfaction about the facilities provided for displaced persons by the Sri Lanka Government.

Dr. Kalin visited the Menikfarm Kadirgamar Welfare Centre in Chettikulam, Vavuniya on an inspection tour yesterday.

Kalin who arrived in the village in an SLAF helicopter around 11 a.m. yesterday was welcomed by Vavuniya Government Agent P.S.M. Charles and Vanni Security Forces Commander Major General Kamal Gunaratne and other officials.

Kalin who also inspected the vocational training centre at Kadirgamar village said he is personally satisfied with the measures taken by the Government to ensure the security of displaced persons and cater to their welfare.

He was accompanied in the town by UN Representative in Sri Lanka Neil Buhne, Major General Kamal Gunaratne and Disaster Management and Human Rights Ministry Secretary Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha.
