Jaffna’s Thanuja set new record

S.A.N. Thanuja Shanmugarasa from Arunothaya College, Jaffna set the
first record on the opening day of the National Schools Athletic Meet
which commenced yesterday at the Sugathadasa Stadium. Thanuja went over
the bar at 2.81 m in the pole vault to erase the existing record 2.80 m
held by J.M.D. Anne Piumali of St. Anne’s College, Wattala.
The meet commenced at 8.00 a.m. with a colourful ceremony with
Education Minister Susil Premajantha as the chief guest. The meet will
continue till September 27 at the same venue.
