ICTA computerizes state lands in Western Province
The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA)
has taken steps to create a database on State-owned lands in the Western
Province.
Under this endeavour all information on State-owned lands in the
Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha districts will be entered on to a
database.
While the computerization of the information on State-owned lands in
the Western Province will take place under the project management and
technical support of the re-engineering Government program of ICTA, the
solution will be developed by the University of Colombo School of
Computing. A contract for this development of provincial land MIS
solution between the University of Colombo School of Computing and the
Western Provincial Land Commissioner's Department was signed at the
Ministry of Lands, Western Province Provincial Council recently. While
the University of Colombo School of Computing Dr. Ruwan Weerasinghe and
Provincial Land Commissioner (W.P) Ms. E.A.R. Renuka were the main
signatories to the contract, Director re-engineering government program,
ICTA Wasantha Deshapriya and Secretary to the Ministry of Lands, Western
Provincial Councillor Jayanthi Wijetunga were also associated in the
signing of the agreement. Deshapriya said that computerization of
information on State-owned lands was important in using such lands for
development and other purposes.
This will help to minimize the various irregularities that allegedly
occur in handling State-owned lands and improve the efficiency of
releasing lands for the purpose of agricultural activities, residential
purposes and industries.
Computerization of information on Government-owned lands will be
replicated islandwide through the relevant Provincial Councils, says
Deshapriya.
