Ridee Tharaka to twinkle on ITN

Natasha and Lakshan

Award winning actress Damitha Abeyratne began work on her latest teledrama Ridee Tharaka recently. A glitzy Muhurath ceremony was held at the Fingara country club, Raththanapitiya, on September 14, to mark the occasion which also coincided with Damitha's birthday. Significantly the event was telecast live on ITN for the first time in Sri Lankan television history.

Ridee Tharaka revolves around a story of Tharaka, a young girl who has every comfort she could imagine in life except love. However a chance meeting with Pavan, a guy who is faced with an entirely different situation to her turns her life upside down. The two form a bond but many of those who are in the background try to destroy the emotions they hold towards each other.

Though the teledrama is based on young love it flows into a series of incidents which caters to all types of audience. The audience may find room to sympathize with some characters while they will laugh over some characters and their actions.

The charming Natasha Perera who had entered acting in Nalaka Swarnatileke's popular teledrama Dangamalla will portray the lead role of Tharaka along with two new faces. Natasha first entered the limelight as a vocalist by dueting with Edward Jayakody in Sulangak Wee before turning to acting.

Lakshan Vatthuhewa and Jehan Block will take on the prominent roles of Pavan and Nimesh. Interestingly Lakshan had previously acted opposite Nathasha in her stage play also titled Dangamalla.

The other actors who will play significant roles are Rangana Preamratne, Ramani Siriwardena, Damitha Abeyratne, Kanchana Kodithuwakku, Sampath Sri Roshan, Prasad Sooriyarachchi, Lionel Wickrama, Richard Manamudali, Ravindra Kodagoda, Saranapala Jayasooriya, Ruvindika Ishadini, Mayanthi de Silva and Wasanthi Shiroma.

The 200 episode teledrama is directed by Lilantha Kumarasiri and produced by Damitha Abeyratne on behalf of D Team International.

Aruna Premaratne had scripted the screen play and Nishantha Pradeep handles the camera and lighting. Kanishka de Alwis is the editor, Priyantha Malhamiarachchi is the assistant director, Suneth Nandalal is the art director and Tharaka Adikari is the make up artist of the project.

The production manager is Dhanushka Jayawardena while the production coordinator is Chinthaka Peries. The line producer is Shammi de Silva.

Ajith Premalal set the melody to the song penned by Kelum Srimal and sung by Uresha Ravihari and Amal Perera.

The teledrama is due to be telecast from November 2, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7.30 p.m. on ITN.
