Pension defrauding attempt busted
Police busted a fake kachcheri yesterday in
Nawalapitiya and arrested a suspect who was turning out forged death
certificates of persons for the purpose of claiming their pension.
Police seized the equipment used for the fraud.

Security Forces unearth large stock of arms
Security Forces continuing clearing and mopping
up operations in the North and the East recovered over 240 kg of
high explosives along with a large stock of arms and ammunition
during separate search operations on Monday in Tharavikkulam and
Puthukudiyiruppu.

SLIIT student assault case:
Four cops released, 10 others re-remanded
Four policemen who were remanded in connection
with the alleged assault on the SLIIT student Nipuna Ramanayake were
released by Kaduwela Additional District Judge R.A. Ranaraja on a
direction by the Attorney General yesterday. The other ten suspects
including the wife and son of former CCD Director Senior SP Vaas
Gunawardena were further remanded till September 29.
