Honduras resistance holds first assembly
Honduras: The National Front against the coup d'Etat was analyzing
Sunday during its first national assembly some strategies to foster the
struggle for the restoration of constitutional order.
Resistance' delegations from the country's 18 departments are
attending this meeting, when protests have reached today its 71st
consecutive days of anti-coup resistance, the Front's general
coordinator Juan Barahona told Prensa Latina.Rural leader Rafael Alegria
stressed that the aims of the assembly are to establish a horizontal
coordination with all Honduran opposition forces against the June 28
military coup.
Also on the list are to make a general analysis of the struggle,
emphasizing the November 29 elections, and the general strategy by
peoples' forces.
Barahona recalled that the aims of the Front are to restore
constitutional order, achieve the unconditional return of President
Manuel Zelaya, and demand a constituent assembly.
The Front is vast alliance comprised of union, rural, student, women
organizations, and progressive parties, among others. It was created
some few hours after the June 28 military coup.
Sunday's national assembly was convened on August 30 by Unitary
Federation of Honduran Workers general secretary Israel Salinas, after
informing of a tour within the country.
