China commends Siriliya Saviya program
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa who is on a six day official
visit to the People’s Republic of China called on Chinese
People’s Congress Vice President and Chinese Women’s Society
President Chen Zhi Li and held wide ranging talks with her. The
First Lady also handed over to Madam Chen Zhi Li a report on the
Siriliya Saviya program initiated by her for the welfare of

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa who is in the People's Republic of
China on a six-day official visit called on Chinese People's Congress
Vice President and Chinese Women's Society President Madam Chen Zhi Li
at the Great Hall of the People and held extensive discussions with her
yesterday morning.
Madam Chen Zhi Li who warmly welcomed the First Lady expressed great
appreciation of the dedicated efforts made by President Mahinda
Rajapaksa to usher in peace and development in Sri Lanka.
The First Lady who gave a detailed account of the efforts made by the
Government to cater to the welfare of women and children in particular
handed over a report on the Siriliya Saviya program launched under her
initiative for the progress and welfare of women and children to Madam
Chen Zhi Li.
Madam Li who commended the services rendered by the Siriliya Saviya
program promised future Chinese assistance towards the program.
Madam Li also accepted an invitation made by the First Lady to visit
Sri Lanka in the near future. Chinese Women's Society representatives
including its Vice President Madam Zue Zio Zio, Sri Lanka Ambassador
Karunaratne Amunugama and Vavuniya GA Mrs. S.M. Charles were also
present on the occasion.
The Chinese Women's Society has a membership of over 600 million
Chinese women and it has close collaboration with women's organisations
of nearly 120 countries. |
