Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapakse yesterday granted a time
period to the prosecution to inform Court as to what steps would be
taken in connection with the indictment against the Principal of Ananda
College, Colombo B.A. Abeyratne for submitting forged documents to the
Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The Prosecuting Counsel on an earlier date orally submitted to Court
that the prosecution would pray before the Court to allow the
prosecution to withdraw the case against Abeyratne.
The Court observed that if the prosecution prayed before the Court to
withdraw the case it should make written submissions to satisfy the
Court.
The Attorney General filed indictment against B.A. Abeyratne on six
counts for forwarding three letters to CID Inspector of Police
Wijesekara for an investigation as if they were written by him
(Principal) though were allegedly forged documents.
According to the investigation, Abeyratne had forwarded these letters
to the CID for an investigation of alleged malpractice in Grade I
admissions in 2005. The CID initiated the investigation based on a
complaint lodged by the Presidential Investigation Unit. |
