Wet weather till October

The present weather condition with occasional showers will continue till the second Inter -monsoon commences in early October, a Meteorology Department senior official told the Daily News yesterday.

According to the official, this situation generally affected Sabaragamuwa, Central and Western Provinces and Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts.

Fairly strong winds are also likely to be experienced throughout the country. Meanwhile, residents living in the low lying areas of Kitulgala, Yatiyantota and Avissawella were warned by the National Disaster Management Centre to be watchful of the water level in the Kelani Ganga and its tributaries as three sluice gates of the Maussakele reservoir have been opened to discharge excess water.

An official of the Power and Energy Ministry said all catchment areas of the major reservoirs are experiencing occasional showers at moderate level increasing their capacity.
