TNA to cooperate with Government
The TNA stressing the importance of jointly working for the wellbeing
of the country and it's people yesterday emphasised that they are ready
to cooperate with the Government to restore peace and prosperity in the
country.
The TNA made this assurance following a meeting with President
Mahinda Rajapaksa held at Temple Tress last evening. A group of seven
TNA MPs headed by it's Parliamentary Group Leader R.Sampanthan attended
the discussions which lasted over three hours, a media communique issued
by the President's Media Unit stated last night.

During this discussion President Mahinda Rajapaksa pointed out the
Government has given its priority to re-settle the people displaced due
to terrorism and expedite demining activities. The Government's agenda's
has given its utmost priority for the security and welfare of the
people, the President told the TNA MPs.
President Rajapaksa said the re-settlement activities will be
completed very soon under the program implemented by the Government.
This would provide an opportunity for the TNA and other political
parties to engage in their political activities freely and
democratically. " The Government will not allow any room for the LTTE or
any other terrorist organization to hold the people to ransom and take
them in to a trap again.
In order to further build up the confidence step by step, the TNA
stressed the importance of conducting similar follow up meetings with
the President by considering this discussion as it's initial step.
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha, Resettlement and Disaster
Relief Services Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, Senior Presidential Advisor
MP Basil Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga,
Northern Province Governor Maj. Gen.G.A.Chandrasiri and senior officials
of the Nation Building Ministry participated in the discussion.
TNA MPs N.Srikantha, Thangeswari Kathiraman, Sivasakthee Ananthan,
Mavai Senathirajah, Suresh Premachandran and R.M.Imam attended the
discussion representing the TNA. |
