KumbukRiver, the one-of-a-kind eco-lodge which beat the world's
leading green operators to be named the world's leading eco-lodge at
last year's awards in Turks and Caicos Islands off Miami USA, has for
the third consecutive year, been nominated for the coveted seven kg
bronze statue, hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the travel Oscar.
KumbukRiver is a 14-acre green resort nestled on the banks of the
Kumbukkan Oya bordering Yala in Okkampitiya.
Presenting Sri Lanka a double celebration and a chance for a second
global award this year is the Responsible Tourism Partnership of Sri
Lanka, a non-profit foundation bringing together Sri Lanka's leading
lights in tourism and conservation.
It has been nominated as the world's leading responsible tourism
initiative. RTP Sri Lanka implements a mandate which sees the
development and implementation of practical sustainable tourism
solutions to help protect and enhance Sri Lanka as a tourist destination
promoting Sri Lanka as a highly valued responsible tourism destination
for visitors while coordinating and managing the delivery of tourism and
related projects with the objective of contributing towards the
economic, environmental and social well- being of the people of Sri
Lanka are also among its objectives.
It is of significance to note that both nominations from Sri Lanka
are in the field of responsible tourism signalling the emergence of the
country as a trailblazer in this highly competitive and fast evolving
sphere of development. While RTP Sri Lanka brings together well-known
personalities of Sri Lanka's tourism and conservation spheres
KumbukRiver has been a groundbreaking effort by The 7th Frontier, a team
of young brand professionals.
"It's a significant achievement for Sri Lanka to be recognized twice
in the sphere of responsible tourism.
Sri Lanka should now capitalize on the two nominations and put the
accolades into good use in turning Sri Lanka into the world's leading
destination in eco-tourism," said Brand Guru Dinesh Watawana, whose
company created the award-winning green destination. |
