The gathering was well attended by heads of corporate, philanthropists of all communities, distinguished old boys and well-wishers.

Chairman, Board of Governors and President of the Old Boys' Association of Zahira College Fowzul Hameed addressing the gathering said that it is a much felt need of the college and that they have come up with this initiative to be a part of their vision to become one of the best schools in the island by 2012. Chairman, Organizing Committee Jisthy Fawmey said it is a dream come true in the history of Zahira College and appealed all Old Zahirians and well-wishers to rally round the organizing committee to make it a reality.

Many old boys and well-wishers pledged donations and contributions at the event. Manilal Fernando, Chairman on the Holcim Lanka Ltd. donated the entire requirement of cement for the project.

The swimming pool project will be an ultra modern international standard entity complete in a three storey building.

The main pool will consist of eight lanes and will be 25 metres long and 16.6 metres wide. A beginner's pool of 15 metres long and six metres wide is also planned in this fabulous complex.

The exquisitely designed grand main lobby will be the centrepiece of the ground floor which will also house the visitors' wash room, male changing rooms and the beginners' changing rooms. The first floor will sport the main pool, spectators' podium, beginners' pool and stores.

The second floor will comprise changing rooms for females, a resplendent restaurant and the pool office.
