Angulana double murder:
Witness identifies suspects

Kalpana Fernando, 35, of Walana, Panadura giving evidence before the

Sethunga in the ‘Angulana Police Station Double Murder case’ said the
OIC of the Angulana police station assaulted the youth who was wearing a
black T shirt inside the police station.
“The OIC’s hand was also injured while assaulting the youth,” she
said.
CID ASP Shani Abeysekera who led evidence in court told the Judge
that there are 15 prosecution witnesses to give evidence in connection
with the double murder of Dinesh and Danushka at the Angulana Police
Station.
Kalpana Fernando examined by ASP Shani Abeysekera said the youth
appealed to the OIC to release them from custody as they have not
committed any criminal offence.
While giving evidence, witness Kalpana Fernando identified the OIC
and several other policemen who were involved in the attack on the youth
at the police station on the day of the incident.
The witness walked upto the dock where the suspects were and
identified the then Anugulana Police Station OIC and other police
personnel allegedly involved in the attack, on a directive of the Judge
in open court.
The nine suspects, all Police personnel, including the former OIC
Anugulana Police Station, who had been remanded in connection with the
double murder were yesterday further remanded till today, by the Mount
Lavinia Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Harsha Sethunga
yesterday.
The Criminal Investigation Department conducing investigations into
the double murder told the Judge that they are investigating to
ascertain the jurisdiction of the Court as one body had been found in
the Moratuwa Police area.
CID ASP Shani Abeysekera with Inspector Ranjith Munasinghe, OIC CID
Special Branch Inspector Jayasinghe and Sergeant Upali appeared for the
prosecution.
President Counsel Srinath Perera with Attorneys Athula Ranagala,
Ratna Gamage and Keerthi Atapattu watched to interests of the family
members of the two deceased. The case will be called again today.
