Lankan mission in Eritrea

The Government will establish a permanent mission in Eritrea soon.
Sri Lanka established ties with Eritrea last year but we did not have
a permanent mission.
Eritrea is a country that seceded from Ethiopia.
CEB leave cancelled
All leave has been cancelled for all categories of employees of the
CEB from today (August 28) until further notice, Acting CEB Chairman K.
Ranaweera said.
Meanwhile Power and Energy Minister has appealed to CEB employees not
to be misled by politically motivated power hungry trade unions.
Public lecture
The Sri Lanka - India Pragathi Sansadaya (SLIPS) in collaboration
with the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) organising
a public lecture on 'Dynamics of Inter-Party Politics in Tamil Nadu' by
N. Sathiya Moorthi, a Political Analyst from Chennai on Friday August 28
from 5.30 p.m. - 7.30 p.m. at the BCIS Auditorium.
The key note speaker N. Sathiya Moorthy is a renowned Journalist,
writer, author and political analyst from Chennai. He is now associated
with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), the multi-disciplinary
Indian policy think-tank, headquartered in New Delhi. Based in Chennai,
he has been a keen observer of the Indian politics, with particular
reference to Tamil Nadu.
Sathiya Moorthy has been a student of the Sri Lankan scene, as part
of his efforts to focus on India's southern neighbours. He has been a
regular columnist of the Colombo newspapers, for the past few years.
Screening of Departure
Departure, an award winning Japanese film will be screened today at
the Sinhala Sanskruthika Ayathanaya (Sudarshi hall) at 6.30 p.m. This
film which was directed by the prominent Japanese film maker 'Yachiro
Takhitha', won the award for best Foreign film at the Oscar film
festival in 2008.
The screening of this film is a presentation under the recently
launched film screening program, 'Friday cinema,' which is organized by
Sinhala Cultural Institute. 'Friday Cinema' will screen world renowned
films every Friday at the same venue.
Fund raiser sale
Clothes and other items including food will be available at a sale
organised by St. Joseph's Convent, Kegalle - Colombo branch on Saturday,
August 29 at St. Lawrence Church - Community Hall, Wellawatta from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from this sale will to fund various projects in
the convent.
Lecture on winning war
Disaster Management and Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe
will deliver a lecture on 'Winning the war to winning peace - post war
rebuilding of the society' today, August 28 at 9.30 a.m. at the Taj
Samudra Hotel.
Diyawanna annual walk
The second annual Walk of Diyawanna Walkers Club Sri Jayawardenapura
Kotte will be held tomorrow (August 29) at 6.30 a.m. The Assembly point
will be the premises of the National Football Training Center at
Baddegana and will proceed along Baddegana road to Kotte road,
Mahindarama road, Ferry Road to Sri Lanka Nippon Friendship road, Sri
Sunethrarama Vihara Mawatha and back to the Football Training Center.
The themes of the walk are to educate the public of the necessity to
keep the Environment Clean and free of pollution.
House for war hero's widow
The wife of Air Force Commander and President of the Air Force 'Seva
Vanitha' Unit Nelun Gunatilake handed over a newly constructed house to
Corporal Chaminda Lakmal Gunaratne's widow R.P. Indra Kumari.
She received the new house worth rupees one million.
Indra Kumari's child Ashen Lakmal aged two months was presented a
fixed deposit for Rs. 10,000.
Trains for Basilica feast
Irangika Range
The Railways Department will operate special train services for the
convenience of devotees attending the Annual Feast of the Basilica in
Thewatta, Ragama.
Sri Lanka Railways' Commercial Superintendent Vijaya Samarasinghe
said that the Railways Department has taken measures to operate extra
trains from Maradana and Moratuwa to Ragama, Negombo to Ragama and
Chilaw to Ragama from August 30, in addition to train services operating
from Colombo Fort to Ragama daily.
He said the railway service will commence from Maradana at 7.51 am,
5.00 pm, 10.00 am, 12.50 pm and 7.05 pm to Ragama while a special trains
will commence from Moratuwa at 11.00 am and 2.30 pm to Ragama. In
addition, the train service will operate from Chilaw at 7.55 am while a
train service will commence from Negombo at 1.40 pm to Ragama.
Mahavamsa extended up to Vanni Victory
An updated edition of Sarala Sinhala Mahavamsaya will be launched by
Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka at the Prime Minister's Office
on September 1. It will contain the entire history of Sri Lanka from the
early beginning up to the complete eradication of the LTTE and
unification of the whole of Sri Lanka under one banner.
This book has been written by Pandit Wijesiri Wettimuny, writer and
scholar, who has written number of books critically analyzing various
aspects of Mahavamsaya.
Original Mahavamsa containing 99 chapters has been rendered in to
simple lucid Sinhala so that the average reader can understand. Also the
book has been updated by including the recent events in Sri Lanka
culminating in the victory of the Vanni operation.

has been appointed as the Media Consultant to the Public Administration
and Home Affairs Ministry.
Postponed
The 5 Star Explosion featuring Annesley, Indrani Mignonne,
Sunil and Rajiv scheduled for August 28 at the BMICH at 7.30 p.m. has
been rescheduled for October 5 due to unavoidable circumstances, Tickets
purchased for August 28 would be valid for October 5.
