More claymore mines detected

Police unearthed powerful claymore mines and explosives on information provided by LTTE cadres under custody in Chettikulam yesterday morning.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said a special police team from Vavuniya police have unearthed claymore mines following information revealed by an LTTE suspect in police custody.

They have recovered three claymore mines each weighing 7kgs, another claymore mine weighing 21kgs and three claymore mine stands.

"Police unearthed the claymore mines buried in a jungle in Second Farm, Chettikulam around 9.10am", he added.

Meanwhile, Chettikulam police uncovered two T56 rifles, seven T56 magazines, 1kg C4 explosives, 31 johnny pressure mines, an RPG ammunition and two boxes of anti air craft ammunition, box containing 85 ammunition.
