SLASSCOM HR Summit 2009:

Leveraging people skills for success

The inaugural SLASSCOM HR Summit 2009 themed "Leveraging People Skills for Success" will feature two eminent personalities in the HR industry.

The Keynote guest lectures will be presented by Executive Director Human Resource, IBM India Ltd Aquil Busrai who will speak on "Leveraging talent during tough times and the key role of communication" and by Head of Management Development R and D Unit, Corporate HR and Personnel, Larsen and Toubro, India Dr. Sethu Madhavan speaking on "Importance of EQ in setting the right attitude".

He joined Shell Malaysia in 2002 as Director Human Resources and Managing Director of Shell People Services Asia Sdn Bhd.

He returned to India in 2006, from Kuala Lumpur and joined IBM India Ltd as Executive Director Human Resources.

Busrai said "In economic downturn situation, one of the most critical success factors are managing talent, not only to come out of the cycle but also to prepare for better times when it arrives. While it is expected that there will be talk of gloom and doom, one has to keep an eye on the future and strategies for recovery.

Relevance of discussion this issue in current times is very high. While factors like capital, technology and market reach are all important - one single and most critical differentiator is managing People who manage those factors"

Madhavan said "EQ practice will help not only oneself but also others around us.

On one hand it will reduce toxic emotions and toxic anxieties leading to better psychosomatic wellbeing for the self.

On the other hand it will help us to manage other people better and make them feel better, resulting in attracting positive impressions, social support, good will, rewards, and success from all around us."
