Chandimal’s ton lifts Sri Lanka to 324/9

Former Sri Lanka under 19 vice captain Dinesh Chandimal slammed a superb century to lift the Sri Lanka Cricket Development XI to a formidable 324 for 9 in their first innings on day two of their three day practice match against the visiting New Zealand team continued at the NCC ground in Maitland Place yesterday.

The elegant right hander batting at number three went on to make a top score of 109 from 234 deliveries with the help of 14 boundaries.

The wicket keeper batsman played the sheet anchor role and kept one end occupied almost through the entire innings after New Zealand had managed to add only 14 runs to their overnight total.

Chandimal certainly provided a glimpse of what is in store for the Kiwis in the up coming two Test series while displaying tremendous concentration and determination during his splendid innings. He was also associated in a 99 run second wicket stand along with opener Tillekeratne Dilshan.

The dashing opening batsman proved that he had fully recovered from his injuries by smashing a sparkling 68 from just 60 deliveries inclusive of three sixes and eight boundaries. Chandimal also figured in another big stand with all rounder Dhammika Prasad who hit a useful 73 with 12 boundaries.

New Zealand is scheduled to play two Tests against Sri Lanka with the first Test starting on Tuesday at the Galle International Stadium.
