Sri Lanka has some of the best marketeers. Most of our marketeers are
working at some of the best multi-national companies, and have
implemented some great strategies within their organizations, said
Marketing Manager, hSenid Mobile Solutions, Germaine Perera.
She was interviewed by Daily News Business
Q. What inspired you to select marketing as your career?
A. I think my zeal for marketing came from my interest in it
from a very young age. From the time I was in school I was keen on
advertising and journalism, and when I left I noticed that by moving
into a career in marketing, I got a little of both worlds.
When I started doing CIM it opened my eyes to a broader world of
marketing that captivated my interest.
It provided me the strength I needed as a foundation to grow my
career into what I have achieved today.

Working at hSenid Mobile provided great learning and experience that
I am sure I would have never have been exposed to elsewhere.
Working here has definitely been the most influential part of my life
as I have been fortunate enough to understand my career goals and
aspirations.
Q. Being a frontliner of the company, what are the challenges
you face in the field of marketing?
A. I think one of the main challenges is to be a marketeer at
an IT company. Strategizing marketing plans for a technology company
needs much focus.
It is different to other industries such as manufacturing and FMCG.
Potential customers in this field need information positioned very
differently in all marketing aspects. I think the marketing team at
hSenid Mobile has gone above and beyond to ensure that this has always
been our core focus.
Q. What is the impact of the current economic crisis on your
organization?
A. As we know, the economic crisis is global. One thing that
we believe is that no matter what happens, technology will evolve and
our customers will also keep on expecting the latest and the best in
terms of software and services.
hSenid has always had a key advantage compared to their competitors
in terms of Next generation technology and services. Regardless of the
economic crisis, the customer is No. 1 to hSenid. While sustainability
is key, we have seen steady growth in R&D efforts as well.
Q. In many companies we often see that marketeers are not
represented at boardroom meetings. What is your view?
A. I think that having a marketeer at that level would be a
great advantage to a company because each person's different viewpoints
could help with the strategic level decisions the company will make for
their future growth.
Working at hSenid Mobile has really helped every individual here as
we have a very open culture and marketeers are represented at boardroom
level as they can help with most of the market and customer related
issues pertaining to the organization.
Q. What are the advertising strategies that you employ in your
organization?
A. As an organization with a global reach, our main focus in
terms of advertising is to go on the lines of an online marketing
approach. We have some of the best SEO experts employed at hSenid
Mobile, and we are constantly looking at ways to grow our brand. Using
the social media to our advantage has helped us tremendously. Online
advertising is the best way to reach our global clients and the ROI is
significant.
Q. What do you think about local marketeers?
A. I truly believe that we have some of the best marketeers in
this country. Most of our marketeers are working at some of the best
multi-national companies and we have implemented some great strategies
within their organizations. All in all there's great talent amongst the
marketeers out there. |
