‘Golden Brothers’ and ‘Friends’ champions

At the sports festival held in Vavuniya Town Council grounds recently
under ‘Uthuru Vasanthaya’ (Northern Spring) program where the finals of
cricket and football took place. Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social
Services and Social Welfare, graced the occasion as the chief guest on
an invitation extended by the organizing committee.
Minister Devananda presented the winning team the Friends with the
much coveted cup and a sum of Rs. 50,000 whilst the ‘Young Stars’ who
valiantly battled against its contenders the ‘Friends’ was presented
with a sum of Rs. 40,000. Every player of ‘Golden Brothers’ football
team who emerged victorious was presented with a pair of soccer boots.
Stalin, the Media Secretary of the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP)
addressing the participants of the sports festival stated that the EPDP
was not only involved in the struggle for winning the political rights
of the Tamil speaking people but also engaged in the development of the
fields of art, sports, culture, education, et al.
He requested from the participants to work hand in hand forgetting
differences for taking the country towards a better tomorrow. “We the
EPDP and our leader comrade Douglas Devananda are extremely happy today
to see you all lined up as brothers and sisters of one family and we
always encourage and support occasions of this nature which promote
oneness,” he added.
M. Chandrakumar, former EPDP parliamentarian, Sebamalai Tissa
Weerasingam (Lingesh) Chairman, Pudukudiiruppu Pradeshiya Sabha, Vinthan,
EPDP international representative and Sivan Sivakumar (Ragu) Vavuniya
Town Council candidate and Vavuniya EPDP organiser presented the awards. |
