Nominations called for SPC polls
With the dissolution of the Southern Provincial
Council on August 3 midnight, the Elections Department yesterday
called for nominations for the election of members to the Council
commencing August 21, 2009.

Uva, Jaffna Vavuniya polls fair and peaceful - NPOC
The National Polls Observation Center (NPOC) in
a press release yesterday described the Uva Provincial and Jaffna
and Vavuniya Local Council elections as extremely fair and peaceful.
It said only four minor incidents were reported on the polling day
which did not affect the voter turn-out in any way.
