Uva, Jaffna Vavuniya polls fair and peaceful - NPOC

The National Polls Observation Center (NPOC) in a press release yesterday described the Uva Provincial and Jaffna and Vavuniya Local Council elections as extremely fair and peaceful. It said only four minor incidents were reported on the polling day which did not affect the voter turn-out in any way.

The NPOC said 25 incidents of violation of election laws were reported in the pre election period. Sixteen of them were in Badulla seven in Moneragala, one in Jaffna and two in Vavuniya.

No post election violence was reported upto yesterday. Therefore, when compared with previous elections held in recent times the election held on Saturday August 8 to the Uva PC, the Jaffna MC and the Vavuniya UC were extremely Fair and Peaceful, the NPOC statement said.
