Asian Schools Rowing C’ship from July 23 to 26
SAMPATH BANDARA
The Asian Schools Rowing Championship which is being organized by the
Tharunyata Hetak Organization under the patronage of its Chairman Namal
Rajapaksa, will be held at Bolgoda Lake from July 23 to 26.
This will be a historic sporting occasion. The first ever Asian
Schools Rowing Championship to be held in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan, India and Malaysia have already confirmed their
participation with the largest contingent coming from Pakistan with 60
rowers.
Between 25 to 27 schools will take part in the first Asian Schools
Rowing Championship 2009 in which there will be over 150 participants.
This Rowing Championship will be conducted under two age categories
(Senior and Junior) with trophies being awarded for the winners.
General Secretary of Tharunyata Hetak Lalith Piyum Perera, Director
Sports Ronny Ibrahim, Director Finance Champika Karunaratne, Human
Resource Manager Kithali Jayawickreme, General Secretary Asian Schools
Rowing Association Lasantha Welikala, Chairman of Asian Schools Rowing
Association Ariff Ikram and Ravi Liyanage, General Manager of
Janashakthi also addressed the media briefing.
