Awareness workshop on public-private partnerships
The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) in collaboration with the
Governance and Institutional Development Division (GIDD), Commonwealth
Secretariat has organized a four-day awareness workshop on
Public-Private Partnerships from August 13-18.
The workshop at the Mt.Lavinia Hotel will be inaugurated by Minister
of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Anura Priyadarshana
Yapa. The aim of the workshop is to build public sector and private
sector capacity in implementing public-private partnerships (PPP) in the
development of infrastructure and other service projects.
The workshop will cover a wide range of topics relating to PPP
including what is PPP, what types of projects and why, what other
countries are doing, policy framework, risk management, legal and
contractual issues, project finance and other related areas.
This workshop comes at a time when governments around the world have
sought to secure a greater participation of the private sector in
infrastructure development.
It is also relevant to Sri Lanka at this juncture when the Government
has embarked on a massive development project in the development of the
South, North and East.
The Governance and Institutional Development Division of the
Commonwealth Secretariat (GIDD) which is responsible for public sector
development is sponsoring the workshop.
GIDD's mandate covers public sector administration, civil society and
private sector institutions with public responsibilities, GIDDs has
experience in helping countries develop their capacity in public-private
partnerships (PPPs).
