Change of brand name

The Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club has announced that under
its new branding strategy the club will be known as "The Oval" and its
recreation activities will be known under the sub brands of Oval-tennis,Oval-swimming,
Oval badminton,Oval gymnasium and Oval squash, according to a release
from its President Chandra Schaffter a former All Ceylon allrounder.
The club has also been furbished and its bar and restaurant, would be
known as the Oval Taverners and the ground will be known as the P.
Sara-Oval aptly named after the club's eminent former cricket captain
and president P.Saravanamuttu The change to The Oval brad name is not
new but reinforces its brand identity as it was popularly known as the
Colombo Oval in yesteryears.
The Oval boasts a rich history of 110 years and was the venue of Sri
Lanka's historic First Test match in 1982. The club also boasts the rare
privilege of being the only venue in Asia where the legendary Don
Bradman played.
The club will in future be referred to as The Oval and the cricket
ground as the 'P. Sara Oval'.
