I am a medical doctor in a Sri Lanka Government hospital. I am amazed
at the way UN is treating the people and Government of Sri Lanka, even
after finishing a fearsome war with the LTTE to save over 300,000
Tamils.
I have been working in hospitals attached to IDP camps in Sri Lanka
where we have been visiting and treating those patients from war areas
on rotational basis continuously. It is unbelievable to see the
Government's real effort to heal the sick and wounded even though we are
living in a third world country.
LTTE, the world's most fearsome terrorist group was defeated by the
Sri Lanka Government Armed Forces. And the EU states are trying to bring
charges of war crimes against the Government of Sri Lanka.
First I think we should assess why the war was there. Why UN and EU
trying to find fault with the Sri Lanka Government. And what are the
possible consequences those UN and EU will have to face.
Sri Lanka has already lost more than 100,000 lives during past three
decades due to the activities of the LTTE. Most of the time it was LTTE
who killed civilians using suicide bombers and fragmentation mines. We
don't understand why UN Human Right Council did not pay attention at
those times when the LTTE is slowly and systematically killing innocent
civilians?
LTTE killed two world leaders, invented the suicide jacket and have
done the highest number of suicide attacks by a single terrorists group
in the world and they recruited thousands of child soldiers. The UN
Human Right Council never called for an investigation. Why was that?
LTTE killed fleeing civilians from the war zone. Where was the UN
Human Rights Council at that time?
LTTE killed all the other Tamil political leaders (Eg. Mr. Kadirgamar
- Foreign Minister, Mr. Amirthalingam - MP, Mr. Raviraj - MP and etc.,
etc) saying V. Prabhakaran should be the sole leader of the Sri Lankan
Tamils. Where was the UN Human Right Council?
US air strikes killed 140 Afghan civilians; Why UN Human Right
Council does not investigate about it?
LTTE had an annual income of more than one billion US dollars before
Sri Lanka Government starting the humanitarian mission to rescue Tamils
from clutches of the LTTE. I have been pointing out a dangerous fact to
all foreign missions (Including CIA web information site) in Sri Lanka
since 3 years ago, if the LTTE is allowed this income and the separate
state, the LTTE would acquire nuclear weapons within next two decades.
LTTE was probably managed to steal a container load of Uranium rich soil
from Ranchi, India in December 2006 and transported it to a Uranium
enriching facility in North Korea. (http://nucnews.nt/nucnews)
Let's see what happened to the politicians who backed the LTTE. Paul
Martin, Viko, Jayalalitha defeated in elections failing to get the
people's mandate as they helped the LTTE. There are over expenditure
charges against Gordon Brown's Government, specially for its Foreign
Secretary, David Miliband
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/288042/FOREIGN-Secretary-David-Miliband-is-to-waste-hundreds-of-thousands-of-pounds-on-a-private-jet.html
Are these politicians and officials who are backing LTTE, corrupt?
Are they on LTTE's pay role?
How much LTTE supporters would spend on such a mission?
In Sri Lanka retired SL Army Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera was assassinated
by an LTTE suicide cadre in October 2008. Investigations have revealed
that LTTE has spent around 7 million Sri Lankan rupees (USD 60,000) for
that assassination.
What had he done for the LTTE? He had done his duty properly to save
Jaffna peninsula from falling to LTTE. This is the amount of money LTTE
was ready to spend just to kill an unarmed politician if it happens to
be against Sri Lanka Government it would be million of US dollars.
UN should take utmost care not to intervene in affairs of
democratically elected Sri Lanka Government, by going behind supporters
of world's most ruthless killing machine. Why Navi Pillay does not want
to come and see the agony of people who came from LTTE controlled areas?
She is only interested in the stories put forward by the pro LTTE web
sites. Some newspapers say that there had been over 1,000 civilian
deaths per day during last 20 days of the war (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/leading
article/article6382706.ece) but the LTTE has not managed to send a
single photograph of such a mass scale deaths? Why was that?
LTTE's political wing leader Nadesan and Pulideevan have even
contacted foreign journalist Marie Colvin (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article)
using video phones a few hours before their deaths on March 16, 2009
with smiling faces (according to the reporter).
Why could not they send a single photograph of mass deaths which
should have happened within close proximity to their bunker? That was
because there were no such deaths. All those mass casualty figures are
fictions. LTTE is highly capable in fabricating stories. If UN can give
real evidence then there is no point to do such inquiries spending
millions of UN funds. The best thing is to start investigate firstly
from the greatest ever known civilian slaughter by US in Hiroshima and
Nagasaki by using Nuclear weapons.

Now that the dust is settling down in the North after the humiliating
defeat for the LTTE, the Government should consider rewarding the
gallant soldiers (rank and file) even in a small way by awarding a
special 'War Medal' to all the soldiers who held the fort in the Mannar,
Kilinochchi and Mulaitivu districts until the last leader of the LTTE
was annihilated from the North.
We have seen that the concerned leaders of the Government Defence
establishment, Army high officials from the Commanders downwards who
risked their lives and limbs to bring peace to this thrice blessed
island of ours have been duly recognized in a fitting manner for their
leadership and guidance given to the junior ranks in this battle which
lasted nearly three decades.
Even the soldiers who laid down their lives in these districts and
those who were maimed in the battlefield should also be awarded this
'Medal'. The citizens of this country should be made aware of this
Medal, if awarded, so that they could recognize these great warriors who
would adorn this Medal.
The concerned soldiers will really appreciate this gesture and give
their best to the country at all times, as it is who they faced the
bullets from Multi Barrel Rocket launches, Anti-Air Craft guns, Rockets
and all sorts of Missiles and hand bombs, grenades and mines whilst in
the war front.

Thirty years of Eelam war
Is now history and nothing more
Its victory is the first of it's kind
In a gruesome guerilla fight.
Courageous and disciplined to the hilt
Yet bold, brave, bloody and resolute
Oh Dear Soldier
You are our greatest asset and pride
The brutes the senseless Tigers
They faultered
For they did not know
Our gallant soldiers
We bow down in obeisanee
For your courage par excellence
You saved our country your Motherland
With huge sacrifices none the less
This beautiful island
The island in the sun
The pearl of the Indian ocean
Is nobody's but your's brave soldier
It is entirely yours my son.

Viewers in Sri Lanka and abroad were able to observe enchanting
beauties in and around the Galle city, while watching on TV the 1st test
match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka played at Galle Cricket gorund.
It happened to be an ideal work of tourist propaganda. In between
overs and at usual breaks of play we were shown the historic rampart,
panoramic Rumassala hill, sandy beaches, numerous flocks of birds,
fishermen fishing on poles, boats and yachts cruising in and out of the
harbour, surfing in the sea and coconut groves bountifully bearing nuts
along the coast.
In fact, the Rupavahini personnel deployed at Galle have done an
excellent job which will obviously allure foreigners to visits our
country.
In this view, it is prudent for our Tourist Board to make use of the
duration of cricket matches as a media of promoting tourism in
collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket in future.
In the meantime, it should not also be forgotten that old clock tower
on the rampart simultaneously indicated time of different countries
bringing us much humour. When it was 12.00 noon in Sri Lanka, one facet
of the tower indicated 10.30 and contrarily it was 11.00 on the other.
I trust this will catch the eyes of authorities of the Tourism
Ministry.

The Director in charge of pension has taken a decision to deduct Rs.
50 from the payment of all the pensioners to purchase land in Ramboda to
build a Holiday Home for the pensioners.
I hope so called Holiday Home will be of no use to the old pensioners
because Ramboda is far away to travel and place with cold weather.
Most of our pensioners are spending in the evening of their life.
Therefore we will be greatly appreciated to obtain more convenient
facilities.
In the long run this Holiday Home could be monopolized by few high
ranking public servants and politicians.
I suggest as usual contribution of Rs. 50 could be made from the
monthly pension payment to provide holiday facilities in a reputed
hotel. Providing two free of charge holiday warrants to the family of
every pensioner to spend two nights in a reputed hotel. Close to their
home town will be a great thing.
I hope the Director General of Pension will pay his attention for my
suggestion and it will be great convenience for all the pensioners in
this country.

Any user of the road will know that the issue of driving licences and
road accidents are not interconnected. Road accidents are due to bad and
reckless driving with more vehicles on roads.
If anybody drives down the Kandy/Colombo Road and see how lorry and
bus drivers use the road, it would be shocking. This is not due to poor
testing of driving by examiners of motor vehicles for the CMT's office,
it is pure and simple indiscipline on the road. A strict driving test
and a fool proof licence cannot reduce road accidents. You must see how
the 40-foot container and long fuel bowsers are driven on the roads.
It is idiotic to assume that drivers will stop consuming liquor, get
disciplined and the roads will get widened simply because the driving
licence is fool proof and the driving test is a couple of hours long. I
have driven vehicles both light and heavy for over 50 years and now
stopped because other drivers are not disciplined. I can challenge any
EMV to show how to reverse a 40-foot container carrier on to a lane.
There is no special test for such drivers. This speaks of the driving
test.
Not a single driving school teaches driving in the night. It is a
fact that the introduction of driving schools have led to facilitate
corruption in the issue of driving licences. Now every driving school
charges a complete 'All inclusive' price.
There are more road deaths a year than in the war zones. Millions
spent on the new concept of driving licences and air-conditioning the
CMT office to accommodate computers should have been spent for a better
cause.
ENG. COLWIN ZOYSA - Colombo 8
It was June 30 Tuesday. Some policemen from Kandy police station
suddenly raided a pavement sale stall in front of the Kandy market and
removed all the mangoes and pineapples from the place of blocking the
pedestrians' walk. All the things were loaded into a lorry along with
the sellers of the pavement and taken to the police station for inquiry
and legal action against the violation of the prohibitive rule.
I feel such police action should take place now and then in the
cities to keep them clear of hindrances to smooth movement of the big
crowd along the pavements. All the temporary pavement sale stalls must
be removed by police in the towns and cities. Legal action will reduce
the escalating road accidents due to lack of sufficient space for both
pedestrians and motorists.
Policemen also should nab the pick pockets and other miscreants
loitering along the crowded pavements that are blocked by sweep sellers
and other vociferous advertisers of their degraded items.
Some loud mouthed sellers on the pavement keep on shouting while
keeping the gullible customers close to them for the purpose of
snatching valuables from their pockets or from the bags. So, it is the
duty of the patrolling policemen to catch these culprits in the midst of
the crowded pavement.
There is another vital duty for policemen near public places like
hospital, hotel, post office, bank, market etc. to catch smokers soon
after drinking tea or plain tea in a hotel and take them to the police
station for legal action.
There is another unpleasant sight of beggars falsely limping along
the pavement begging from the passers-by but once they go out of the
crowd, they start smoking cigarettes or consuming intoxicating drugs.
They must be caught by these raiding policemen before they vanish after
snatching valuables from the gullible public moving carelessly along the
pavement.
Bravo! The gallant police heroes! It is high time for you to wage a
war against miscreants and misbehaving culprits in response to
declaration of the second war against the use of narcotics by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa.
