NFF district leader attacked

Three men were arrested by Buttala police in connection with an attack on National Freedom Front (NFF) Polit Bureau member and Moneragala district leader MP Padma Udayashantha.

Explaining what had happened MP Udayashantha said, “I was returning after participating in a rally at Aluthwala area in Buttlala , when a mob of about 20 persons carrying clubs and chains in their hands, suddenly blocked the road and attacked the jeep I was traveling.

Some of them were motor cyclists. There were three motor cycles.

It was around 2 pm, when the incident occured. Current NFF candidate for Uva Province and former UPFA candidate and Provincial member W.A. Udaya Kumara was also travelling with me at the time,”he said.

“My security personnel acted promptly and brought the situation under control as the attackers were fleeing the area. Three of them were seized by my security guards, who were later handed over to the police,” he said.

The suspects are in remand custody. JVP contestant for Uva Provincial Council Umaru Lebbe Kiyaz is also among them NFF sources said.

Buttala police are investigating.
