Boost for aquaculture in North

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry has taken initiatives to rehabilitate the Freshwater Aquaculture industry in North.

As an initial step, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Deputy Minister Neomal Perera released 50,000 fingerlings to the Pawakkulama Tank in Vavuniya.

Perera said a 180 day accelerated rehabilitation program has been implemented by the Ministry in line with the Uthuru Vasanthaya to increase the fresh water fish production in North.

He said the Ministry has initiated the program of providing boats, nets and other fishing gear and implements and training to fishermen free of charge.
