Dengue claims Engineering Faculty undergrad

A third year Engineering Faculty student of Peradeniya University died of dengue fever yesterday at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

The deceased undergraduate is identified as Malaka Padmasiri of Ulapane, Gampola.

It is reported that the medical officer attached to Peradeniya University has failed to heed the requests by health authorities to take steps to destroy mosquito breeding places identified at several locations at the Medical and Agriculture Faculties of the university.

Meanwhile, Kandy district has reported 2,225 dengue cases with 28 deaths, Director Health Services (Central Province) Dr. Shanthi Samarasinghe said.
