What an attire!

Sachi blew a whistle when he saw a pretty visitor walking into the Daily News Editorial for an interview. She was wearing a rather short skirt with a plunging neckline. Everyone (especially the male) in the office couldn’t help but stare.

“Chee Sachi, hold your breath, it’s not good to do that. What would she think?,” said Ruwi, who was also thinking how a girl could wear such a thing to Lake House of all places!

“So why is she wearing such an outfit? Maybe she wants everyone to think that she’s attractive or get better publicity?,” replied Sachi with a wink.

“So she’s just a visitor, I agree with Sachi but you shouldn’t overdress. I think every woman has her best features but by going past the limit, their true beauty is overshadowed and it becomes provocative,” piped Shaz who was wearing a frock that showed a bit of leg but wasn’t ‘out there’.

“Hmm... I think there ought to be a good way to dress, especially to an office. Some girls can look really smart and professional with the right attire without of going to the extreme,” said Ruwi who was writing a story for Artscope.

Eavesdropping on the conversation, Demi who got an approval for a page from the Editor, gave her views: “Exactly. Dress code is important because you should respect yourself and the institution you work for.”

Sachi was straining to get a better look at the mysterious visitor but pity him because she was in the Editor’s office. Clicking her fingers to get Sachi’s attention, Shaz said, “Sachi, I know you hardly see pretty girls in the Editorial but you are surrounded with three nice girls, so I’m sure you’re not suffering, right?”

Sachi replied with a smile, “Of course, it’s just male nature, you know…”

“Ha,ha!” laughed Demi.

Ruwi joined in, “You have to be comfortable in what you wear. We spend plenty of time at work and as writers we’re always busy so it’s wise to have comfortable clothes rather than follow the trend”.

Eventually, the pretty visitor left the office. Sachi didn’t move but concentrated on a story for his page. “Sha! What a good boy Sachi is, he didn’t even want to get her autograph!,” jested Ruwi while Demi and Shaz stared at him with mock amazement.

“Come on, girls, you always think I’m naughty. In real life, I’m good, ok?,” Sach went on ignoring their jokes.

“Okay, okay. Sachi is a good boy. So what do you think of uniforms, good boy?,” asked Shaz.

“I think it’s not bad, when an employee wears a uniform, we know where they work like HSBC.” replied Ruwi.

Shaz says, “Well I think it’s easy because you wear basically the same thing but variety is the spice of life.”

“That’s why our Lake House receptionists and sales counter personnel wear identical saris,” noted Demi.

Sachi reflected on another aspect of the point, “I guess most men stick to a general dress code which is shirts and trousers for work. There are others who wear ties for a more professional look especially during high profile meetings.”

“In any sense, clothes mirror your character and a more provocative way of dressing portrays you as a bolder person. However, if you have the figure and feel comfortable in it then it’s for you,” said Ruwi.

Shaz said, “In the West, it has become so common for women to wear rather short skirts to look professional.

It’s nothing much in those countries but here, if you walk the streets with a knee-length skirt, the rowdies whistle at you.”

Sachi pondered, “What I can’t understand is that some girls wear mini skirts and plunging necklines but they adjust and try to cover their legs. Why do they wear such clothes if they are not comfortable?”

“I agree. What’s the point of adjusting your attire because it’ll mean more people will look at you, wondering what in blazes is going on!,” said Ruwi.

“Our attire should be decent but we should be stylish too. You can’t follow fashion if it doesn’t suit you,” said Shaz.

“Okay I need a break from work. Let’s have some hot coffee at WTC,” exclaimed an animated Sachi rubbing his hands in glee.

“To have a hot cup of coffee or to see hot girls?,” asked Ruwi and Shaz together.

Sachi gave a sneer.

“Ha, ha! We’re just kidding, you’re so serious!,” said a winking Shaz taking her V3 mates arm-in-arm to their favourite hangout.
