New Sabaragamuwa Governor takes oaths
New Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province J.M. Janaka Bandara took oaths
before President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday.
Janaka Bandara is the seventh Governor who fills the vacancy created
by the death of Governor Mohan Saliya Ellawala.
He is an old boy of S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia and also a
graduate from the University of Colombo. He began his legal career in
1995 as an Attorney-at-Law and served in the Embilipitiya Court for
seven years followed by his appointment as a Magistrate in 2002.
He had served in Colombo, Pelmadulla, Rakwana, Bibile, and Wellawaya
in that capacity as well as an Additional District Judge.
During the 2006-2008 period, he was the Public Trustee and in 2008,
he was appointed as Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Minister Maheepala Herath, Governor Alavi
Moulana and Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge were also
present. |
