Four Sri Lankan teams for Imagine Cup 2009 Finals in Cairo

The Sri Lankan chapter of Imagine Cup 2009 concluded with team MAHEE from Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology winning in the Software Design Category. The winning team will now compete at the grand finale of the Imagine Cup scheduled from July 3 - 9 in Cairo, Egypt.


A Life-changing experience Board Director, ICTA Earl Fernando, Dunith Dhanushka, Chankya Jayasinghe, Akila Jayasooriya, Lakkana Perera and Country Manager, Microsoft Sri Lanka Sriyan de Silva Wijeyeratne, Developer Evangelist, Microsoft Sri Lanka Wellington Perera.

Alongside team MAHEE, Sri Lanka is represented by three other teams from the University of Moratuwa at the Imagine Cup 2009 World Finals. Whilst Team MAHEE competes in the Software Design category at the global finals, team SAS_EN competes in the Embedded Development category, team Sasrutha in the MashUp category and Pramuditha Aravinda competes in the Robotics and Algorithm category.

Being able to qualify for the World Finals in diverse categories, of which three are highly technical, demonstrates the outstanding talent, quality and skill level of the Sri Lankan students.

Attracting over 800 participants this year in Sri Lanka alone, this competition offers an opportunity for young IT enthusiasts to showcase their talent and creativity on a global platform.

Of the five teams that presented at the local final, Team Legal Advisors from the University of Colombo School of Computing earned second place for their project Legal Advisors while team InnoWorks from the University of Moratuwa bagged third place.

The fourth and fifth places were awarded to Team Sakila from the University of Moratuwa and Team Aegis Software from SLIIT respectively.
