Pakistan, India to resume talks
Islamabad: The halted peace process between Pakistan and India was
challenged by the meeting today between President Asif Ali Zardari and
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
The meeting between Zardari and Singh on the fringes of the Summit of
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is the first between head of
states of these two countries since the bloody terrorist attack against
Mumbai. After the encounter Pakistani Foreign Minister Mahmoud Qureshi
declared to his country's news agency APP that both parts agreed to hold
a meeting between their respective foreign affairs secretaries in the
near future on a mutually agreed date.
In the meeting Pakistan told India about the steps taken against
terrorism and committed to paying attention to New Delhi concerns in
that sense, said Qureshi.
At the beginning of the meeting Singh showed pleasure for his meeting
with Zardari although he said the Pakistani territory must not be used
for terrorist acts against India, reported sources involved in the
event.
He urged Zardari to adopt strong and believable measures against
terrorist groups to create suitable conditions for resumption of
bilateral peace talks. Islamabad, Prensa Latina
