NIC compulsory for voters

The National Identity Card or any other identity document with a
photograph of the voter will be made compulsory for the voters to cast
their ballot at the forthcoming Uva Provincial Council Election,
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake said.
Dissanayake said the National Identity Card issued by Persons
Registration Department, a valid Passport, a valid Driving licence, a
Railway Season Ticket Identity Card with valid season ticket, Pensioners
Identity Card, Senior Citizens Identity Card, issued by Persons
Registration Department are acceptable.
A person who does not posses any one of the above identity cards
should obtain a special identity card.
If picture of the identity card is not clear such identity
card-holders should obtain new temporary identity cards. Official
Identity Cards and Postal Identity Cards will not be accepted.
A temporary identity card will be issued free of charge. Those who
want to apply for temporary identity cards should meet their respective
Grama Niladaries or Estate Superintendents with a black and white
photograph.
Grama Niladaries and Estate Superintendents should issue such special
identity cards with the signature of the respective Assistant
Commissioner at least 10 days before the election, the Commissioner
said.
No other identity cards other than those mentioned above will be
accepted by the election officers at the polling stations.
