Badur Mowlood, Zikir, Thawba

The recital of Badur Mowlood will start on June 18 after Magirb prayers and will continue until Isha Prayers at the Nawala Jummah Mosque. Thawba and Zikir Majlis will be conducted by Al-Haj Moulavi M. Mafaz (Nulari) after Isha prayers at the Nawala Jummah Masjid.


Prayers, lectures

The program will commence on Sunday June 21 with Rathibathul Jalaliya recited by Moulavi Al Haj A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi) and M.Y.M. Rafi. A religious lecture will also be conducted by Moulavi Al Haj A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi) at the Nawala Mosque.


Look out for new moon

A conference will be held on June 24 (Wednesday) immediately after Salath Ul Maghrib at the Madrasathul Hameediah Hall, Colombo Grand Mosque, to determine the date to commence the Islamic month of Rajab 1430, on the evidence of sighting the new moon in any part of Sri Lanka.

The Colombo Grand Mosque appealed to the Muslim public to look out for the new moon of Rajab Hijri 1430, immediately after Maghrib, on June 24 and to inform the Colombo Grand Mosque on 2390783, 2432110, 2434651 or 0777366099 if the new moon is sighted.


Family Day

An Old Boys' Family Day organised by the Old Boys' Association of St. Sebastian's College Moratuwa will be held at the College grounds on June 20 Saturday.

The proceedings will begin at 1 pm which will include six-a-side cricket, basketball, athletics events,tug-o-war and games for women and children.

Old boy and cricketer Tony Jesudasen will be the chief guest.


Exhibition

An exhibition of paintings presented by a group of talented youth in the Northern and Eastern Provinces under a project organised by the Uthuru Vasanthya Nena Guna Weduma Sisu Diriya 2009 program is currently being held at the Maharagama Youth Centre.

It will conclude with an awards ceremony at the same venue tomorrow at 9 am.

A two day paintings exhibition organised by the Kandy Girl's High School Art Circle will be opened at the school by Kandy Zonal Director of Education Wijeratna Weerasuriya today.


Special program to mark National Food Week

The Western Provincial Council has organised a special program to mark the proposed National Food Week from June 22-28.

An inauguration ceremony of the program will be held at " Srawasthri"at 9.00am on June 22, under the patronage of Western Provincial Chief Minister Prasanna Ranathunga.

A tree planting and sapling distribution will take place parallel to the activities.


Buddhist Dhamma preaching

Buddhist preaching has been organized by the United Buddhist Association of Bank of Ceylon, York Street Building, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. this evening June 18, Thursday by the Senior Lecturer, University of Colombo, Dharsanapathi Venerable Agalakada Sirisumana Thera.

A small Dhamma book will be delivered to the participant devotees on this occasion.

The Legal Unit and Recovery Unit of the Bank of Ceylon, Western Province - North have contributed to the Buddhist Association for this dhamma preaching.


Seminar

A seminar 'After the War' for activists of the Socialist Alliance will be held on June 21 at 10 a.m. at the auditorium of the National Library and Documentation Services Board, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7.

The speakers will be Ministers Tissa Vitharana, D. E. W. Gunasekara, Rajitha Senaratha and Dilan Perera, CME Opposition Leader, S. Sridaran and Ranjith Nawaratna.


Pirith

The Hermann Gmeiner School in Piliyandala is a gift to Sri Lanka from Prof. Hermann Gmeiner, the founder of the SOS. The staff and the School Development Society has organised an all night Pirith on June 19 and a Sangika dana the following day to mark the school's 25th anniversary and to invoke blessings on the people of Sri Lanka.


Deputy Minister felicitated

The people of Sadayanthalawa in Ampara district will felicitate Public Estate Development Deputy Minister S. Nijamudeen on June 19 at the Sadayanthalawa women centre.

The ceremony is organised by the Sadayanthalawa women welfare society and other public organisations.


'Rupee Fund' annual treat

The Sri Lanka Malay Association "Rupee Fund" annual treat to underprivileged children will be held at the fund's pre-school at Kew Street Slave Island on June 18 in memory of Mrs. Mshmoon Lye, late founder of the Association.


Medical camp

The annual medical camp conduced by the Old Anandans 75-80 Group will be held on June 21, Sunday at Ananda College for the 15th successive year Past and present teachers totalling around 400 will attend this medical camp which will be attended by around 75 medical consultants who are old Anandians.


Road race

An anti narcotics road race organised by the Police Narcotics Bureau to mark World Anti Narcotics Day which falls on June 26 will be held at the Independence Square on June 28 from 7 a.m. Applications should be sent to Director, Police Narcotics Bureau, 3rd floor, New Secretariat Building, Colombo 1. Shramadana campaign

A shramadana campaign to clean up mosquito breeding places in Galewela organised by the Regional Superintendent of Health Services office will be held throughout the day today.
