Hayleys reach semi-final of 'great HR debate'
A debating team representing Hayleys Group advanced to the
semi-finals of the inaugural Inter-Organizational Debating Championship
dubbed 'The 'Great HR debate' after two rounds of intense and
thought-provoking debate on issues germane to human resources
management.
The four member team defeated debaters from Dialog PLC and
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in the first round and the quarter-finals
respectively. In all, 14 teams participated in the debate conducted by
the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM).
"The debates were a great learning experience for the individuals who
participated and we are pleased with our team's performance at three
tough rounds of debate", said a company spokesperson. Our debaters
performed very creditably at the semi-finals too, having to propose a
difficult and contentious topic. In the first round and quarter-final,
the Hayleys team successfully proposed the topics 'Hiring for skill is
better than hiring for attitude and interest' and 'Employment branding
is more important than customer branding.' In the semi-final the team
proposed the topic 'In an economic recession, retrenching staff is
inevitable for organizational survival,' and presented lucid and
forceful arguments, the spokesperson stated.
The Hayleys Group team consisted of employees of Group's Human
Resources Department, Corporate Communications Unit and the Strategic
Business Development Unit.
