Visit to Shwedagon Pagoda: President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa were warmly received at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon on Monday by the Religious Affairs Ministry Director General, Buddhist Monks, Trustee of the Pagoda Shwedagon U.Ba Shwe and area Commanders of the Army. Ven. Dr. Bodagama Chandima Thera and Maha Sangha from Sri Lanka and Myanmar, Ambassador Newton Gunarathne and the President’s sons Yoshitha and Rohitha Rajapaksa were also present.

First Swine Flu case

The first person diagnosed with Swine Flu has been found in the country, said Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday evening at a hurriedly convened press conference held at the Health Ministry in Colombo.

Police nab LTTE medical supplier

The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) arrested a director of a leading pharmaceutical company in Wellawatte for having connections with the LTTE and seized a stock of medical items valued at around Rs.2.5 million which were prepared to be sent to the LTTE.
