Mosquito breeders in Kandy fined

Four dengue deaths in Kalutara :

Five persons charged before the Kandy Primary Court Additional Magistrate for failure to eradicate mosquito breeding places in their compounds were ordered to pay fines totalling Rs. 48,000 yesterday.

They were rounded up and indicted by Public Health Inspectors of Alawathugoda and Nugawela, S.H.S. Seneviratne and I.P.I.B. Meddegoda during raids in Alawathugoda and Nugawela areas. Meanwhile, four persons died of dengue fever in the Kalutara district this year while 288 patients affected by dengue have been reported.

These figures were revealed at the Kalutara district co-ordinating committee meeting held at the Kalutara Secretariat presided by Co-ordinating Committee President, Minister Kumara Welgama on Tuesday.

The Minister said a dengue elimination program has been commenced from Panadura.
