Infrastructure facilities for Universities
The Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Higher
Education W.A. Wishwa Warnapala to construct a building for the
Department of Quantity Surveying University of Moratuwa at a cost of Rs.
75 million and to construct the student center building for the Faculty
of Engineering University of Peradeniya at a cost of Rs. 36 million.
Amendment of the Food Act
The Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of
Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala De Silva to direct the Legal
Draftsman to effect the Amendment of the Food Act No. 26 of 1980 as
amended by the Food (Amendment) Act No. 20 of 1991.
The main objective of Food Act is to regulate the safety of the food
meant for human consumption in the areas of processing, packing,
transport, distribution, storage, importation and ensure a safe and
honestly presented food for the consumers.
Parliamentary Election Act No. 1 of 1981
The Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by the Prime Minister
Ratnasiri Wickramanayake to submit amendment to the Parliamentary
Election Act No. 1 of 1981 to the Parliament.
The amendment have been prepared giving consideration to the
principle of acceptance of parties by the voters, and the de-recognition
of political parties based on a party’s activeness.
Amendment of the Voluntary Social Service Organizations Act No. 31
of 1980
The Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of
Internal Administration Ratnasiri Wickramanayake to instruct the legal
draftsman to draft necessary amendments by substitution the words
“Minister in charge of the subject” in place of “Minister in charge of
the subject of social Service” in the section 6 of the Act No.31 of 1980
which reads as “Any person aggrieved by the decision of the Registrar
refusing to register any voluntary organization may within 30 days of
such refusal appeal to the Secretary to the Ministry of the Minister in
charge of the subject of Social Service against such refusal.”
Amending the Act of Sri Lanka Freedom of Hunger Campaign Board
The Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of
Agriculture Development and Agrarian Service Maithripala Sirisena to
inform the legal draftsman to draft necessary amendment to the Act.
Publish the amended Act in Government Gazette and submit same before
Parliament.
Construction of 408 housing units in Ampara District
The Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Nation
Building, Estate Infrastructure Development Mahinda Rajapaksa to entrust
the construction of 408 housing units at an estimated cost of Rs.
1,005,104,421.31 (including 15% VAT) and pay the escalated rates
recommended as per ICTAD Formula Base Index.
This project will be financed with the fund of Jayalanka Housing
program and Jathika Saviya Program under the Ministry of Nation Building
and Estate Infrastructure Development during 2007, 2008, 2009.
Filling the vacancies in the Public Management Assistants’ service
in North and East Provinces
The Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Public
Administration and Home Affairs Sarath Amunugama to fill the above
vacancies on temporary basis on the Public Management Assistants’
service held in 2006 from the districts in North and East Provinces.
However, filling of these vacancies has become vital for the
implement of development programs “Dawn of the East” and “Vaddikil
Wasantham”.
