Rajans take under 19 soccer title

Dharmaraja College, Kandy continued to reign supreme in the hill capital when they became champions at the Kandy District Schools Under 19 Soccer Championship when they beat Ranabima Royal College, Peradeniya by two goals to one in the finals of the soccer tournament at Peradeniya on Sunday. At half time winners led 1-0.

Rajans drew first blood in the 18th minute of the first half through a neat goal by centre forward D. Weerasuriya.

Rajans scored their second goal where left extreme D. Ranasinghe collecting a cross pass and succeeded in getting past the Ranabima Royal defence to notch up the second goal. But Ranabima Royal College which took to soccer only a few years ago fought back gallantly and centre forward A. K. Dissanayake with a neat kick found the nets to reduce the lead to 1-2.
