Civil Defence Force to spearhead anti-dengue campaign

A countrywide anti-dengue campaign was to be started by the Civil Defence Force in collaboration with the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry under a directive made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Power and Energy Minister Mahindananda Alutgamage said yesterday.

There were 150,000 members of the Civil Defence Force serving all parts of the country and they would be able to work with the public health and other related officials of the public health sector, he said.

The President had assigned a high priority to eradication of dengue and the first meeting of officials was held at the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry yesterday to work out the details and methodology of the dengue eradication campaign that would be started immediately, he noted.
