Wall collapses killing two, injuring two

Two people had died and two others were injured when a wall collapsed inside a trader's shop at Katugodella Weediya, Kandy yesterday. Police have taken into custody four persons in this connection.

Police investigations have revealed an unauthorized construction within the premises of the trader's shop where the owner had dug the earth about eight feet deep using a Backo machine in violation of Municipal regulations for some construction. It was during this construction that the wall had collapsed on the persons who were working.

The dead are A. Somaratne and G. Somaratne of Pilimatalawa. The two injured have been admitted to the Peradeniya Hospital.

The shop owner, the contractor, the driver and the owner of the Backo machine have been arrested in this connection. According to the Police the driver is said to be a 17-year-old without a driving licence.
