Distilleries shares up

The indices at the Colombo Stock Exchange closed down yesterday with the ASPI losing 6 points (-0.3 percent) to close at 2,210 and the MPI losing 15 points (-0.6 percent) to close at 2,505.

Turnover was at Rs 431 million with John Keells Holdings (Rs 52 million), Commercial Bank (Rs 51 million) and Distilleries Company (Rs 40 million) accounting for much of the day's turnover.

Distilleries shares saw volatility on the expectations that the Supreme Court will deliver the verdict on the fundamental rights application filed on the privatisation of the Sri Lanka Insurance on Monday.

The share traded at between Rs 87.00 and Rs 94.50 but closed up Rs 2.00 to close at Rs 92.75. JKH closed at Rs 114 and Commercial Bank closed at Rs 125.
