Over 1,000 new enterprises under way

Under the Government’s incentive program for new investments, 1,751 new enterprises with a total investment of Rs. 130 billion had been registered with the Industrial Development Ministry to start projects last year.

A press release by the Government Information Department said 82 per cent of these enterprises were from Colombo and Galle.

The release said 421 of these enterprises were in the textile, garment and leather products sectors. Others were involved in chemical, petroleum, coal, rubber and plastics and processed steel sectors.

There were also enterprises concerning machinery and equipment, transport equipment, tobacco and mineral sectors. The Government took steps to provide all possible incentives to these enterprises.
