UNHRC meets again today

The United Nations Human Rights Council’s special session on Sri Lanka will resume today around 12.30 in Sri Lanka time, a Disaster Management and Human Rights Ministry source said.

Representatives of 15 countries including China and Russia addressed the Council yesterday and the representatives of other member-countries will speak today.

The Ministry sources said majority of countries in the African, Asian and Middle-East regions have already pledged their support for the resolution brought forwarded by Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan resolution calls for the UN to cooperate with the Government in providing humanitarian assistance to the civilians living in welfare camps.
