Press, police should have better rapport - DIG

Through the maintenance of law and order creating a country where all ethnic communities can live without fear and suspicion would be the prime duty and the responsibility of all police officers, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police D. W. Prathapasinhe said.

He made these observations speaking as the chief invitee at a meeting held at the media house in Matara recently. The press and the police should have a better rapport to wipe out anti social activities in the country.

Journalists are at liberty to get the clear and correct stories on crime and anti social activities taking place. Correspondents could play a vital role in the prevention and control of criminal activities through these revelations to the mass media he said.

Matara SP Palitha Fernando said unlike other State departments the Police Department would be the life-line of the country. Vigilance on the part of country’s civil society would be indispensable to curb acts of violence, crime and terrorism.
