SLT and Singer sign historic agreement
Singer Sri Lanka PLC has tied up with Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) again,
to further expand its data network and seamlessly interconnect Singer
Offices, Retail Outlets, Mega Shops and Service Centers located across
the country.
This communication solution will facilitate connectivity to rural
areas through SLTs vast broadband network that will connect over 360
branches countrywide. SLT's IP-VPN Network will provide connectivity
islandwide through its nation-wide broadband network using an array of
mediums such as copper, fibre and microwaves.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mrs. Leisha De Silva Chandrasena,
Chairperson, SLT said, "These agreements are symbolic of the continuous
trust that has evolved between the two institutions over the years."
Singer Sri Lanka is renowned for being one of the largest,
diversified companies as well as a reputed household name, with an
unmatched presence throughout the island. SLT also tied up with Singer
Sri Lanka to expand its sales distribution channel for SLT Citylink CDMA
phones and pre-paid products. SLTs pre-paid products that include SLT
Passport Domestic and International Calling Cards powered by SLTs
superior technology and SLTnet Internet Pre-paid Cards.
Thus, SLT will be able to offer SLT Citylink CDMA phones and pre-
paid products to its customers via 480 branches islandwide, along with
franchising units for Singer Sri Lanka, in addition to SLT Teleshops,
SLT Regional Offices, Authorized Dealers and Super Market Chains
islandwide. Customers who are visiting Singer outlets will be able to
buy SLT Citylink CDMA phones on easy payment terms.
SLT will be in a strategic position to improve the presence of SLT
Citylink Phones and Pre-paid Cards islandwide and be an additional
source of revenue to Singer. Through this agreement, SLT aims to sell
3000 Citylink phones and 2 million worth of Pre-paid Cards per month
With this initiative SLT offers its valuable customers Bill Payments
facility at all Singer outlets islandwide. This will be a value addition
to SLT customers by providing convenient access to around 300 telephone
bill payment centers.

Singha Cement helps IDPs

The Italcementi Group, the 5th largest cement producers in the world,
who commenced operations in Sri Lanka in 1998, came forward to help the
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with unprecedented aid, by way of
cash as well as kind.
Managing Director, ICT, Colin Nelson, said that such had been the
response from their staff as well as dealers, that they had run out of
space.
"I was very proud of the manner in which the staff at ICT, as well as
our dealers and suppliers came forward to help the IDPs in their time of
need without any hesitation, in fact there was a distinctly community
spirit that prevailed," Nelson said.
The company known locally as International Cement Traders (Pvt) Ltd.
(ICT) markets its own brands of cement, available in bulk as well as in
50-kilo bags which conform to international and national standards,
namely Singha and Italcementi.

Develop leadership skills of university students
APIIT, has joined with AIESEC to host the Developing Leaders' Day
2009 today 27. The Developing Leaders' Day will be held at the
University of Colombo with the participation of about 1000 university
students.
At a time when the world is in a recession and many countries are
facing major financial crises, Developing Leaders' Day will prepare
university students to face up to the challenges of these times.
Students will be empowered with knowledge, skills and a wealth of
experiences that will pave the way to success in career and life.
Moreover, the students will be instilled with a sense of
responsibility to contribute to the economic and social advancement of
the country. As a socially responsible higher education institution,
APIIT is honoured to be part of the Developing Leadership Day 2009 and
facilitate the enhancement of leadership skills of Sri Lankan youth.
Developing Leaders' Day 2009 will provide the students of higher
education institutions, both state owned and private, the insight to
discover and develop their leadership potential. APIIT sponsorship of
the event is in line with its overall objective of promoting quality in
higher education in Sri Lanka.
Students will go through sessions titled 'Myself as a Leader', 'Team
Performance Management', and 'Team Communication' followed by a final

professional experience in leadership development.
Developing Leaders' Day will also follow an activity based learning
path backed by a strong theoretical and structured knowledge delivery.

priority for those who do not have access to modern leadership/ personal
development programs. Students from state universities and private
education institutions are invited to take part at Developing Leaders'
